Baby Gear Review: Gunapod® Bamboo Duvet Sack

Our baby loves to be swaddled and responds very well to the comfort of it around her. We’ve tried several options including multiple blankets, the Miracle Blanket, and the Snoo swaddle. Of course, I jumped at the chance to try this new Gunapod® Bamboo Duvet Sack for Gugu Guru from the Gunamuna company.

Per their website, “It’s super soft fabric made from eco-friendly hypoallergenic thermal regulating bamboo fibers, perfect for protecting sensitive skin. And then we filled it with premium fill to feel like a down comforter. The Gunapod® mimics your hug with all over channel-stitched soft pressure points, so baby feels ultra comfortable + sleeps longer. All of that with our WONDERZiP® technology for the easiest diaper changes and a temperature control zip to further customize the cozy. It’s like sleeping on a cloud.

My initial thoughts are, I love the soft material, the adorable pattern and that the Velcro is the non-sticky type so hair and clothes don’t immediately stick to it.  Little Mallary seems to love the comfort of the fabric and hold of the internal swaddle and sack too. We’re not sure if she sleeps longer in it, yet. but we’re hoping to test this more on our upcoming weekend trips.

I love the options to have one, two or no arms out. The baby prefers both arms out, so far!  I like the idea that it’s easy to change the diaper but I’m also paranoid that it will get dirty unless I use a cloth diaper or burp cloth under her while changing her. I also like that the company was conscious of hip dyplasia prevention and that her legs are not restricted.

Overall, we love this swaddle sack option and it helps with naps in the Pack n Play! We are looking forward to using this swaddle sack more when we travel, especially when we go to Walla Walla next month as our first overnight away from home!

My favorite organic and eco-conscious baby finds…so far!

Since getting pregnant, I’ve become obsessed with baby clothes. It doesn’t help that I’m having a little girl and there are so many cute clothes out there. I’ve really succumbed to sales for Burt’s Bees Baby,  Kate Quinn Organics, andWinter Water Factory, especially since the latter is usually quite pricey, but I’ve been able to find 40-50% off sales!

I’ve also been really lucky to receive a lot of sweet hand me downs and find gently used clothes on an online consignment shop called, Les Petites PDX I scored this awesome Hanna Andersson fleece elf suit for this winter!

We picked out the Bumbleride Indie stroller based on a friend’s recommendation and love that it is made of recycled plastic bottles. We should be able to use it for several years too. We also found a Maclaren easy traveler stroller frame on the Nextdoor app for free! It fits our Chicco KeyFit30 carseat too.

I also have a few months supply of Honest diapers and took advantage of the 40% Earth Day and 50% birthday sales!

I belong to the Gugu Guru baby registry advisory board and will be reviewing the Graco Lauren crib soon, along with the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Infant/Toddler Crib Mattress – Hypoallergenic Soy Foam, which is still on our registry!

Any other organic, eco-friendly suggestions?

My first day in Paris!

I arrived in Paris at 9:30am this Sunday morning. I tried sleeping the entire flight but didn’t get any deep sleep. Fortunately customs were a breeze and my conference had a driver waiting for me outside of baggage claim. It took me less than 20 minutes to get off the place and into the car!

My hotel was super busy when I arrived and of course, the room was not ready. Fortunately I heard Americans talking about site monitoring in the lobby and I knew I had found my people. I met several directors and we walked to the arc du triomphe near our hotel. It was windy and rainy today so we walked back to the hotel quickly to see if the rooms were ready. My room was still not at noon, so I walked to the Repetto shoe store while also in search of lunch.

The Repetto store was gorgeous with their shoe displays, tutus, stained glass and merchandise. I did not see any sale signs and their ballet flats were even more expensive than online, however I’m glad I went to their boutique. I walked by the Vendome column and Laduree, but I wasn’t hungry enough for 5-10 euro macarons yet. It started pouring as I walked towards Jardin des Tuileries plus I was starving so I got an Uber back to the hotel.

The room still wasn’t ready so I went to a nearby market and got muffins, cheese and pistachios. I guess most places are closed on Sunday and the Pariseans don’t wake up early. Fortunately, my room was finally ready at 3pm, so I took a nap before Mr. F flew in.

The concierge recommended a close by French bistro called Les Oreilles et la Queue. I’m so glad we asked for this recommendation. Dinner was très magnifique!  We loved the steak frites and the lemon tart dessert was even more phenomenal!  We walked down the Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt to get a better view of the Eiffel Tower lit up at night!  We’ll explore more tomorrow after a good night’s sleep before my conference starts at noon!

My favorite online shops

Wednesday, September 11: Share links to your favorite online shops, preferably with a few photos of your favorite items in each shop.

Oh geez, this is bad, because this post makes me want to shop. Fortunately, I do not need any clothes right now. I have tons of dresses for summer and fall! However, since I’m inclined to share my favorite online shops. For dressing up and work attire, I shop on anthropologie.com, and jcrew.com! Patagoniatheclymb.com, and Prana are my favorite online stores for casual, yoga and outdoor gear too!

Anthropologie is my top favorite online store and I try not to shop on this site, too often. I am considering getting a new dress from my sister in law’s wedding, like the Jardim Lace DressJardim Lace Dress #anthropologie [I’m sure Mr. F will say this is too busy, or too distinctive and I’d like the price to be lower!]

Horsing around sweatshirtHow cute is this Horsing Around sweatshirt on J.Crew? Or this seahorse teeVintage cotton tee in sea horse I guess you all know what I want for Christmas! Sadly, all of J. Crew’s dresses look like empire waist types, which is not flattering on my short stature, so I will not be shopping for my next dress for a wedding or work function there….

Maybe I should finally use, Rent the Runway! I’ve been tempted to use this site to rent a dress but the prices are usually $50-$150 or more! This is a cute party dress…Issa Break His Heart Dressand I think this could be a possible black tie work event dress….Calvin Klein Collection Pick Up Line Sheath

I love wearing dresses, especially from Patagonia (the Rio’s Secret is a new style that I’m curious about)Patagonia Women's Rios Secret Dressor Horny Toad. I have the short-sleeve version of the Oolong dress from Horny Toad and I love it!

By the way, the Clymb has Lole yoga gear and dresses on sale right now

I would love this Riley Woven shirt from Prana this fall!

I also exclusively shop online now, because I hate waiting in line. Mr. F and I even get all our drugstore products on Amazon.com. Do you have any favorite online shops?

Liebster Award and the last day of the blog challenge!

liebster-award-logo3 The lovely DaisyBisley nominated me for the Liebster Award!

Liebster is a German word that means dearest or beloved and is an unofficial award given to up and coming bloggers with under 200 followers by fellow bloggers. It’s a way to pay it forward, so now it’s my turn to pay it forward.

Here are the basic rules for being nominated:

  •  Share 11 random facts about yourself
  •  Answer the 11 questions the blogger who nominated you asked
  •  Create 11 questions to ask the 11 people you nominate
  • Nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and let them know they’ve been nominated

1. I am random and love many things. 2. I like to read but I don’t like to re-read blog posts so I frequently have dumb editing mistakes. 3. I do not like listening to the same music over and over. I hate it when the same album plays repeatedly. 4. I’m a fan of watching tv and blogging at the same time, which also probably explains minor mistakes in my blog posts. 5. I love animals, especially cats, puppies, and ponies. 6. I’m a foodie. 7. I get scared easily. 8. I love to laugh. 9. I love action movies especially with Jason Stratham. 10. I am ticklish. Pedicures are sometimes a bit much when they rub or scrub the bottom of my feet. 11. Showtime has some of my most favorite television shows, like Dexter, Californication, Weeds, House of Lies, Homeland, Shameless, and the L Word. (However FX is another network with a lot of my favorite shows, Archer, Justified, and The League)

My answers to DaisyBisley‘s questions:

1.  What is your favourite book? In high school, I would have immediately said, “Atlas Shrugged”. I’ve recently read, “The Magicians” by Lev Grossman which is a wonderful blend of the Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and life after college. I’m now reading the sequel, “The Magician King“. 10079321

It was our first cat, Foosa. 122_504957524392_9226_n This is the look she used to give our friends when they came over and she didn’t like them. imageThe comic strip Get Fuzzy perfectly captures Foosa’s spirit. 104_503511746742_9616_n

I might have said Tyrion, if I wasn’t in the books but that’s pretty dark. Mr. F wants John Carter of Mars but then he reminded me of the characters in Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Art3mis would be an awesome best friend.

Nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and let them know they’ve been nominated

My good friend, Julia at Sessions with Sweetie

Cardigans and Couture is a college connection that gives me sweet Pacific NW fashion advice with a DC flair.

A new favorite blogger that I found through the Blog Every Day in May Challenge is http://www.glitzngrits.com/

I also wanted to nominate Confessions of a Northern Belle (even she has a fast growing fan base over 200 followers). I’ve been impressed from her first blog posts to creating a strong blogging presence with lots of sponsors.

I’m failing to find 11 bloggers with under 200 followers!

Some of my favorite smaller bloggers like my cousin, Colleen, my college friend and matron of honor, have stopped blogging. A few other favorite bloggers have made their blogs private and write primarily about their families. I also have a few favorite Chicago bloggers like Curly in the City and Breakfast at Toast who have huge fan bases. The Mermaid Chronicles is another new favorite blog but she also has more than 200 fans! My top favorite bloggers, the Doctors Fleming, Fairy Tales are True, the Pioneer Woman, and Jen Lancaster inspire me every day but have thousands of followers! (Technically I named 11 but didn’t officially nominate them all!)

Last but not least, Story of My Life is another new favorite blog (with tons of followers).

A vivid memory of mine would be bringing my great-grandmother, Lola Lola, fresh cherries. Lola Lola lived to be 107 and passed away when I was in middle school. Lola Lola spoke English but most responded to us in Tagalog. She loved it when we came over with our cat, Grey Kitty too.

One of my clearest memories was my mom cutting branches from our cherry trees and bringing them to her grandmother, so Lola could pick the cherries herself, in the comfort of her own home. It would have been in July and the cherries were reddish yellow Rainer cherries.

Sunny Times in Chicago
