Two weeks ago, we left rainy 49 degree weather in Seattle for the fabulously sunny, upper 70s of Maui. Our first afternoon in paradise was spent in Pa’ia, where we had a cool surf lodge (studio cottage) found on VRBO that was within walking distance to the ocean and Mama’s Fish House. Before dinner, we had a nice long walk on the beach, a quick swim and we saw huge sleeping turtles (or honus, in Hawaiian)! We love the view from Mama’s Fish House, the service is excellent and the fish is superb, however, it is incredibly touristy and pretty expensive. Regardless, it was a great first night on the island. We woke up on our first morning to a passing downpour, which sounded amazing on the tin roof and by the time, we had our coffee and papayas on the porch, the rain was gone and rainbows were everywhere! We enjoyed another long walk on the beach, wandering through Pai’a town, and had lunch at Flatbread Pizza Company, which had the most amazing fresh kula greens salad and avocado! Next up, our week in Lahaina!
