Stormy was my sister, Janie’s first horse. She was once a racehorse and still has a tattoo on the inside of her lip. When we first got her, she used to rear and scare me. Janie knew how to ride her though. Stormy is now 20 something and the family has decided to put her down in the next week. It’s time and probably the best thing for Stormy before winter. You are loved, Stormy, and you will be missed.
Pokie is short for Pocahontas. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. My mom says, Pokie is her horse. She can be a punk when you ride her but she truly is a sweetheart. This poor older lady horse has painful arthritis and looks very knobby kneed. It is also her time to go.It was bittersweet when I went to the family farm to pick dahlias and run errands. My sister said she wanted to call the vet this week. While my grandmother, “Tootie”, picked dahlias, Janie and I took lots of pictures with Stormy and Pokie. In the field, the other horses wanted their pictures taken too. Zoey and her mama, Classy, were so attentive, because they were hoping we were going to feed them! The barn kitties were also pretty cute and loved getting attention, too. Hard work and life cycles are a normal part of farm life but it still doesn’t make it easy when you have to put a family pet down. I haven’t been around the horses as much as an adult but it is still very sad to say good bye. I love you, Stormy and Pokie.
