I’m blogging for the third day in a row! I am inspired by Story of My Life the blog! The prompt is “Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at. Take any approach you’d like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)”
I think I’m really good at communicating. Some may even say I over communicate. (If you can’t tell, my style of communication is usually stream of consciousness.) I like to ping my friends regularly to check in and see what’s up with them. Sometimes it’s an email, or a call, or a Pinterest picture or even a whole Pinterest album.
I saw a great post by Sarah Tucker today “Making others feel at ease is the essence of etiquette.” This is what I try to emulate at all times. Sometimes communication is not talking and it is just listening. I find this easy to do, most of the time, but I know it does not come naturally for everyone.
I also really appreciate it when people make plans with me and stick to them, so I try to do the same. I find the most important part of communication is being honest. This is harder for me, but it pays off.
My favorite ways of communicating are not always in person. I love sending and getting emails from my cousins, making Pinterest wedding ideas albums for friends and family (see this wedding board I made for my cousin’s wedding), and getting comments on my blog. I also appreciate Facebook for quick check ins and arranging play dates. I’m always interested in new social media too. You can find me on Instagram as @fettbot and I’m @fettbot on twitter too.
I also love to write letters to people. I’ve had a pen pal since the third grade. We met through the American Girl magazine and found out that we both had family near Green Bay, WI! We still write each other letters to this day.
I do have a best friend from high school who I can go months without talking to (unintentionally) and pick up right where we left off but perhaps that’s because we’ve known each other since we were 10 and 11. She just sent me a picture of us from prom in 2001. I just had to share it with you all!
What I suggest to other people is find your favorite way of communicating, whether that’s upfront, or go with the flow, in person or via computer, and enjoy. If you find you prefer to just listen, good for you, but speak up occasionally! If you prefer to talk alot, make sure to listen occasionally, and check in with others. I’m always trying to make sure everyone is at ease, including myself! What are your favorite ways of communicating?
