Mr. F and I took a ferry to San Juan Island super early on Friday morning. Apparently, Mr. F was worried about long ferry lines, so we got up at 5:30am! (This is a big deal because I am not a morning person!) We were able to get on a 8:30 am ferry and arrived at Friday Harbor by 11am. The ferry had to go slower than normal due to heavy fog. The South end of the island was covered in fog, so we went as far North as possible. Our first stop on the island was the San Juan Island Sculpture Park near Roche Harbor. We were surprised how built up the Hotel de Haro and Roche Harbor had become, since we were last there 10 years ago!
We also stopped at the English Camp but drove through Lime Kiln Point since it was still pretty foggy. We had lunch at the Cask and Schooner in Friday Harbor and the sun came out! We saw a seal swim under the docks too!
On Saturday morning, it was very sunny with very little fog! We went to San Juan County Park and Lime Kiln Point. Transient whales were seen the day before, but we mostly saw seagulls and other birds. We did see cool tidepools with anenomes and old lime kilns!
We wandered through Friday Harbor in the afternoon and saw a few mermaids! We also went to the San Juan Vineyards for wine tasting and saw a camel! The camel’s name is Mona and she’s for sale! She is very sweet and didn’t mind taking pictures with us. I want my mom to buy her for the farm! What do you think, Mom? She already shares a pasture with a horse and an alpaca!
On Sunday morning, we put our car in line for the ferry before 9am and got breakfast. We could not believe how amazing the weather was for the ferry ride back to Anacortes! It was in the mid 60s! On our way home to Seattle, we drove through the tulip farms and saw lovely fields of sunny daffodils. We even got back into town early enough to enjoy an Easter lunch with my grandparents too!
